For the last five years, LITTLE BOTANICA florist and teahouse has been a wonderful local business which we have poured our hearts in to. The floristry side of LITTLE BOTANICA has developed beautifully and has now outgrown the Pollokshaws Road shop, having moved to a fantastic new studio in Tradeston.

The Strathbungo community area has shown us a wealth of support for our teahouse, with many creative and artistic individuals willing to be part of it. Unfortunately, the teahouse is unsustainable in its current format, without the floristry side of the business operating on-site.

We did not want to leave Starthbungo, thus we have decided to use this opportunity to bring a new and exciting project to the area, which will be of even greater benefit to the Strathbungo community. We sincerely hope will be embraced and enjoyed by both residents of, and visitors to this wonderful, vibrant area.

The next step of our journey is MARCHTOWN, and is borne from a desire to make our café and shop into something even more special and then to share it with Strathbungo, our home town. MARCHTOWN will be a wine bar and bistro, and a speciality food and drinks retailer, opening Autumn 2016. Beyond this, MARCHTOWN will be an events space, offering a dizzying range of activities, workshops and events.

As many of our friends and neighbours in Strathbungo will already know, the area was once known as MARCHTOWN, deriving its name from its position as the meeting point of the historic parish boundaries – or marches – of Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire and Govan.

We are inspired by MARCHTOWN’s heritage of joining together the old parishes of Glasgow. We believe that what makes us happy is being together – working, teaching, making, creating, sharing, eating – and of course – the odd glass of wine!

The Strathbungo area is an important part of Glasgow’s history, and we want to make MARCHTOWN not only honour the heritage of our area, but become, a genuine destination venue, and a community hub.

We have an exciting plan for marketing MARCHTOWN, and we intend to link in as much as possible with our local community and events. However, our ambition for MARCHTOWN goes beyond the boundary of our local area. We would love to bring people from every corner of Glasgow, and ideally, encourage more tourists to the area to see how beautiful the south of Glasgow is, find out about the history of the area, and perhaps attend a wee workshop or two.

Most importantly of all, we want to love what we do, and we hope to inspire joy in the people we meet.

We look forward to you joining us on this journey, later in 2016!

The team at MARCHTOWN
